Our History

In 1954, Chemical Pipe and Vessel was established in South Africa started producing PVC piping for the construction industry. Chemical Pipe and Vessel mixed their own pigments in house.

Quintin Maine qualified as a Production Engineer from WITS in 1971. He started work for GKN Manufacturing had purchased Chemical Pipe and Vessel and was asked to take over operations in Chemical Pipe and Vessel and requested to wind the company down. In January 1976 Quintin offered GKN a purchase option. Quintin renamed the company PlastiColors and has now been in business for over 45 Years.

1976

Quintin and Heather Maine established PlastiColors as one of the first masterbatch manufacturers in South Africa.

1982

PlastiColors moved into its own 4,500 m2 premises, where we still reside today.

1992

PlastiColors acquired the colours division of Ferro South Africa, thereby more than doubling their size.

1994

PlastiColors made an appearance at the inauguration of Nelson Mandela.

1995

PlastiColors achieved its SABS ISO 9001 Quality Certification.

1996

Quintin Maine won Business Person of the Year Award from the South African Chamber of Business (SACOB)

2010

Michelle Fleming appointed as Financial Director.

2016

PlastiColors celebrates 40 years of service excellence.

2018

PlastiColors appointed official distributor of Milliken products.

2018

PlastiColors wins industry award for ‘’Most Innovative Supplier to the Plastics Industry’’ at the Berry-Astrapak Quality Awards.

2019

PlastiColors appointed official distributor of Purgex products.

2019

PlastiColors attends the K – Show (World’s No.1 Trade Fair for Plastics & Rubber) in Germany.

2020

PlastiColors scoops up two awards at the Berry-Astrapak Quality Awards.

2022

PlastiColors achieves ISO:22000 – 2018 accreditation.

PlastiColors attends the K – Show in Germany

PlastiColors appointed official distributor of Sukano products

2023

PlastiGreen is launched at Propak Cape Town
