MILLIKEN

MILLIKEN has named PlastiColors the official distributor in South Africa for its clarifiers, nucleators, UV absorber concentrates and ClearTint concentrates. The agreement took effect on 1 August 2018.

PlastiColors has actively developed markets for Milliken’s products and our team has a thorough understanding of the value and workings of Milliken’s nucleators and clarifiers, enabling it to effectively sell the benefits of those products to our clients. 

Additionally, Carolyn Kellock, PlastiColors’ Technical Manager, worked as Territory Manager for Milliken’s South Africa office from 2013 to mid-2017. This further strengthens the knowledge base at PlastiColors as regards to the use and potential further development of markets for Milliken’s range of products. 

PRODUCT RANGE: – 

CLARIFIERS 

Millad® NX™ 8000 provides a step change in optical properties of H-PP and RCP polypropylene (PP). 

NX8000 and NX8000E are available in various masterbatch forms and are available in blue and grey tint versions.

UltraClear™ Impact Modifiers by Milliken enable a unique balance of enhanced impact performance while maintaining UltraClarity in PP.

NUCLEATORS 

Hyperform nucleating agents can be used in all injection and extrusion applications to improve the processing speed, dimensional stability, and physical properties of polypropylene and certain grades of Polyethylene.

PlastiColors have a thorough understanding of the ability of Milliken’s Hyperform product range to function with various pigment formulations as well as polymers.  

Milliken’s Hyperform nucleators can be supplied in natural masterbatch form or added to our colourant masterbatches. 

HPN UltraFast GP 103A is a masterbatch based on nucleating agent Hyperform® HPN. This concentrate would generally be considered for use with non-nucleated polypropylene resins. HPN UltraFast GP 103A  provides isotropic shrinkage for reduced warpage and high productivity. This masterbatch has the unique ability of overriding nucleation power of other additives and pigments. 

HPN UltraView GP 103C is a masterbatch based on nucleating agent Hyperform® HPN™ with a blue tint. It is designed for use in all H-PP polypropylene injection moulding and extrusion applications. It has been specifically developed for the thermoforming industry.

Hyperform® HPN® 715 is a new nucleating agent for injection moulded polypropylene (PP), which imparts significant improvements to the stiffness and HDT (heat distortion temperature) without adverse effects to the impact properties. It also increases the crystallization temperature of PP, which allows for faster production cycles.

UltraGuard Solutions Natural 10036 improves the barrier and optical properties of HDPE and LLDPE film. In addition to improving the barrier in rigid applications, UltraGuard Solutions Natural 10036 imparts increased productivity and shrinkage control.

UltraBalance Solutions Natural 10009 improves the rigidity, dimensional properties, and productivity in injection moulded HDPE parts. These improvements lend themselves to better part performance and durability or allow for potential downgauging or material replacement.

MELT FLOW MODIFIER

DeltaFlowTM Viscosity Modifiers are a melt flow modifier available in a masterbatch form and can be used for melt flow rate movements in all PP grades. DeltaFlowTM Viscosity Modifier in a masterbatch form brings various processing benefits: – easy to convey with additive feeder, ease of blending with pelletized polymers, uniform addition to the process, dust free and no sticking in the feeder system. DeltaFlowTM Viscosity Modifiers are available in 3 different concentrations.

DeltaMax™ is a high-performance melt flow modifier bringing along the combination of melt flow movement while maintaining or enhancing the impact of the base PP grade. DeltaMax™  is designed for use in injection moulded applications of polypropylene impact copolymers and in recycled polypropylene resins containing a good portion of impact copolymer PP or impact modifiers.

DeltaMax™ m100 increases the melt flow rate (MFR) while providing equal or better impact performance to maximize the physical properties and processability of polypropylene.

CLEARTINT COLORANTS 

ClearTint® colours offer the clearest and brightest colours for transparent polypropylene. ClearTint can be used as light tint to mask residual haze or for deep, rich shades. ClearTint colours enhance aesthetics while maintaining the glass clarity look of Millad® NX™ 8000 clarified polypropylene.

ClearTint® colours are polymeric colorants based on a dye molecule. Due to their inherent structure they dissolve in the polymer and as such allow for complete transmittance of light though parts without reudicntion in haze and maintaining the high level of transparency of your clarified PP parts. Due to the polymeric nature of ClearTint® colours, there is no bleeding out of PP. 

As there is no particulate structure, these colourants do not nucleate your PP parts and as such do not result in warpage and shrinkage variations that are commonly observed with standard pigment colorants in PP. 

The polymeric soluble ClearTint® colours will not build up on screws and barrels and this allows for easy purging and colour change during production.

CLEARTINT UV ABSORBERS

ClearTint® CUV is a transparent UV absorber specifically designed for use in polyolefins (PP, HDPE, LLDPE). This additive can be used to inhibit UV light transmission in injection moulding, thermoforming and blow moulding, thereby protecting the contents against any UV interaction. 

The technical and physical benefits of clarified PP can be enhanced without sacrificing product aesthetics.

ClearShield UV absorber brings real value to PET packaging. ClearShield UV absorber effectively protects UV-sensitive packed contents from degradation while maintaining the clarity and transparency of PET.

ClearShield offers an efficient way to protect against UV exposure by incorporating the UV absorber into the PET package itself. These UV absorbers filter 95% of UV light at up to 390 nanometers and are effective at very low loadings, enabling the use of more highly UV-sensitive natural essences, fragrances and colorants in the packaged products. Exposure to UV light can degrade ingredients, and negatively impact the appearance and colour of the content.
