In 1954, Chemical Pipe and Vessel was established in South Africa started producing PVC piping for the construction industry. Chemical Pipe and Vessel mixed their own pigments in house.

Quintin Maine qualified as a Production Engineer from WITS in 1971. He started work for GKN Manufacturing had purchased Chemical Pipe and Vessel and was asked to take over operations in Chemical Pipe and Vessel and requested to wind the company down. In January 1976 Quintin offered GKN a purchase option. Quintin renamed the company PlastiColors and has now been in business for over 35 Years.



1976 - Quintin and Heather Maine established PlastiColors as one of the first masterbatch manufacturers in South Africa.
1982 - PlastiColors moved into its own 4,500 m2 premises, where we still reside today.
1992 - PlastiColors acquired the colours division of Ferro South Africa, thereby more than doubling their size.
1992 - David Rule joined PlastiColors from Ferro Colours.
1995 - PlastiColors achieved its SABS ISO 9001 Quality Certification.
1996 - Quintin Maine won Business Person of the Year Award from the South African Chamber of Business (SACOB).
1996 - Quintin was awarded the Alumni of the Year Award by WITS Technikon for the most successful past graduate.
1997 - Quintin appointed as President of SACOB for the Kempton Park / Edenvale region (currently known as Ekurhuleni Municipality).
1998 - David Rule appointed Executive Director.
1999 - Michael Maine joined PlastiColors.
2003 - Michael Maine appointed Executive Director.
2008 - Michelle Fleming joined PlastiColors as the new Financial Manager
2008 - Michelle Fleming appointed as the Financial Director
2008 - PlastiColors starts Capital Expansion project, phase 1: four new production lines over 2 years.
2010 - Michelle Maine appointed as the Financial Director.
2010 - Capital Expansion phase 1 is completed.
2011 - Capital Expansion phase 2 commences: Expansion of existing premises and further capital equipment investment to increase output.
2011 - PlastiColors celebrates 35 years of business excellence.
